
Mount Everest (8,848m)
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Sightseeing (Durbar Square, Syamambhunath and Boudhanath).
Day 04: Kathmandu - Lukla - Phakding
This is an hour flight from Kathmandu to Lukla Airport (2800m). The trail from Lukla, leads north from the airstrip and drops steeply for a bit, then descends gently to Phakding (2700m), your first overnight here. This is a two hour trek.
Day 05: Phakding - Namche
From Phading the trail continues north up the Dudh Koshi Valley. (Koshi which means river in Nepali and it comes down from the Everest glacier). All along this part of the trail, there is a magnificent forest of Magnolia, rhododendron and giant firs. On the cliffs above the river it is possible to see musk deer and Himalayan tahr. At Monjo the trek enters the Sagarmatha National Park. The trail follows the river and crosses Dudh Koshi and makes a steep climb to Namche (3440m). Namche is a very colorful Sherpa village where you will see vendors selling antiques and each Saturday there is an important weekly haat or market.
Day 06: Namche – Thame
From Namche we head to Thame, an old Sherpa village where most of Climb High’s climbing staff comes from. Lakpa Sherpa (one of Climb High’s leading climbing Sherpa has summited Everest five times and one time with Ms Pemba Doma Sherpa (director of Climb High) in 2002, comes from Thamo which is on the way to Thame. Here you can visit some old monasteries and the views of the Rowaling himals are amazing.
Day 07: Thame – Khumjung
From Thame we come to Khumjung which is 4 hr walk. We stop at Kumjung where there is a school built by Hillary trust. The views of Amadablam, Thamserku and Tawache are really breathtaking... Khumjung’s elevation is 3790m.
Day 08: Khumjung – Phortse
From Khumjung, the route descends to the west of the village down the broad valley leading to the Dudh Kosi and to Phortse at 3500m, an isolated Sherpa village of about 60 houses. This is four hrs walk to Phortse.
Day 09: Phortse – Pangboche
It is four to five hrs walk to Pangboche. Pangboche at 3860m is the highest year round settlement in the valley. The Pangboche monastery is the oldest in Khumbu and once had had relics that were said to be the skull and hand of a yeti.
Day 10: Pangboche - Dingboche
The trail follows the Imja Khola and gradually ascends to Dingboche (4410m). From here the views are great and the mountain views are outstanding. This is a four hrs trek.
Day 11: Dingboche
We have a rest and acclimatization day in Dingboche. We will day hike to the Chukkung valley and climb Chukung Ri. Return to Dingboche.
Day 12: Dingboche - Lobuche
The trail ascends the broad, gently sloping valley to Phalang Karpo at 4340m.The trail crosses small streams on boulders. The views of Tawachee and Cholatse (6440m) are outstanding from along the trail. From Dugla (4620m) the trail climbs higher on the moraine to a row of stone monuments built in the memory of those who have died in Everest. The trail then drops a bit and follows the western side of the valley to Lobuche (4930m). This is a four/five hrs trek.
Day 13: Lobuche - Gorakshep (Everest Base Camp)
The ascent becomes steeper and rougher as it crosses several side moraines. The peak of Pumori (7145m) comes into view. On this lower slope of this mountain a ridge extending to the south terminates in a small peak. This peak, Kalapattar, is 5545m and it provides the best vantage point for viewing Mt Everest. The trail makes a short descend to Gorakshep (5160m). You will reach Gorakshep by lunchtime and trek to Everest Base Camp in the afternoon and return to Gorakshep for the night. This is a six/seven hrs trek.
Day 14: Gorakshep - Kalapattar - Pheriche
Climb Kalapattar in the morning and return to Gorakshep for lunch. After lunch start heading down to Pheriche (4240m). This is a six/seven hrs trek.
Day 15: Pheriche – Deboche
The trail continues downhill to the suspension bridge over the Imja Khola and a short gentle climb to Deboche. At Deboche, we will visit the Deboche nunnery here and the monastery. There are15 Buddhist nuns living in the nunnery.
Day 16: Deboche - Namche
From Deboche, it is a short climb to Thyangboche Monastery and the trail descends all the way down to Phunk Thanga. There is a steep uphill climb to Kyanjoma and the trail winds around the hills to Namche. This is a five hrs trek.
Day 17: Namche - Phakding
From Namche, the trail descends downhill and follows the Dudh Koshi all the way to Phakding. This is a four hrs trek.
Day 18: Phakding - Lukla
There is a gradual climb today to Lukla. This is a four hrs trek.
Day 19: Lukla - Kathmandu.
Fly to Kathmandu. Transfer to hotel in Kathmandu.
