Shishapangma Expedition

Shishpangma (8,046m) was first climbed by Chinese in 1964, is located in central Himalaya, and lies totally within Tibet. Our Base Camp route picks up from Nyalam, 33km from the Nepal/Tibet border, up to the Chinese Base Camp at an altitude of about 5,000m and Advance Base Camp at an altitude of 5,400m. Yaks will transport our expedition gears from Base Camp to Advance Base Camp. Three further camps will be set up after Advance Base Camp to the summit
We offer two types of expedition:
- Services up to base camp and advance base camp only
- Full service expedition.
Services up to advance base camp only
Services Includes
- Climbing permit for Shishapangma on a permit sharing basis with other team members, road maintenance permit, Liaison Officer, hotel accommodations in Tibet en route on full board basis, transportation (jeep & truck) from Zangmu – BC – Zangmu, and 3 yaks (BC – ABC) and 2 yaks (ABC – BC).
- Transportation from Kathmandu to Zangmu (border town) and return, Customs (cargo clearance) at the border, and porters.
- Shishapangma BASE CAMP services: All meals at base camp (breakfast, lunch, snacks, soup and dinner), kitchen tent, dinning tent, single individual tent, toilet tent, equipment storage tent, mattresses, all kitchen equipment, dinning table and chairs, cooking gas and oven, expedition cook (cook's expedition fees for Shishapangma, equipment allowance, wages, insurance and Chinese visa fees), gamo (PAC) bag.
- Hotel in Kathmandu (four nights)
Services Excludes
Visa fee for Tibet , high altitude tents, EPI gas and oven., insurance, emergency evacuation or if you want to leave the base camp earlier from Shishapangma Base Camp (US $ 500-700 net payable to guide directly) and an exit fees payable at the Chinese border, personal and group climbing equipment, oxygen and mask, Nepal re-entry visa fee, high altitude food, high altitude climbing guide, walkie talkie radio and extra yaks (US 100 per yak), medical oxygen (US $ 400) if used.
Full Board Services Includes
- Base camp and Advance base camp services
Shishapangma permit, liaison officer/ interpreter, all transport in Tibet (land cruiser and a truck), all meals at base camp and advance base camp (breakfast, lunch, snacks and dinner), all tents and kitchen equipment at base camp and advance base camp, single individual tent, cook and kitchen boy at base camp and advance base camp, 3 yaks per client from base camp to advance base and two yaks from advance base camp to base camp, 4 nights hotel in Katmandu, all airport pick up and drop, border transport (Katmandu to Zangmu and return), hotel in Tibet en route to base camp and return, staff’s insurance.
- Services above advance base camp (camp 1, camp 2 and camp 3):
Climbing Sherpa, fuel and oven, two men tent for camp1, camp 2 and camp 3, walkie talkie, group climbing equipment (fixed rope, snow bars and ice screws), tents on sharing basis.
Note: if you wish to climb with oxygen, please notify us in advance.
Full Board Services Excludes
- Visa fees for Tibet
- Medical insurance and it should cover helicopter evacuation in case of emergency
- Emergency evacuation from Shishapangma Base Camp (US $ 500- 700 net payable to guide directly) and exit fees payable at the Chinese border.
- Personal climbing equipment and personal high altitude food (of your choice).
- Medical oxygen ( US $ 400 per bottle) if used.

Few Major Points
- Chinese visa valid for 40 days only.
- The total duration of expedition is 40 days, no refund is made for any unused service.
- All the emergency evacuations will be by Jeep, there is no helicopter service in Tibet, In case of emergency evacuation by jeep, the client need to pay to the Liaison officer at base camp for the service.
- The group should enter and exit the border at the same time; in case of early departure from base camp, the cost of extra jeep and a small fee should be borne by client himself.
Bookings: Once you confirm that you will take the trip with us, we will send you a reservation form that you need to fill it out and send it to us. We will also require a deposit of US $ 500 to book your space. Upon confirmation, we will send you all the bank details and more trip information.
Itinerary
ROUTE: the North West (normal route).
Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.
Day 02: Sightseeing in Kathmandu.
Day 03: Drive to Zangmu (Tibet border).
Day 04: Drive to Nyalam.
Day 05: Acclimatization day in Nyalam.
Day 06: Drive to Chinese Base Camp.
Day 07-10: Trek to Advance base camp.
Day 11-32: Climbing period of Shishapangma. The strategy of our expedition is to set up two more camps, camp 1 at 6,730m and Camp 2 at 7,045m while we acclimatize for our summit bid. After spending night at 7,045m, we will descend to ABC. At ABC, we will rest for approximately 5 days depending on the weather. From ABC we will start our summit push and climb to Camp 1, Camp 2 and then establish Camp 3 at 7,400m. From Camp 3 we will make our final push to the summit. On the summit day, we start at 1:00 a.m. We should be able to summit between 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. We will return down to Camp 3 or Camp 2 for the night. Next day we will descend down to ABC.
Day 33: Final packing at ABC.
Day 34: Return to the Base Camp.
Day 35: Drive to Nyalam/Zangmu. Go through the immigration.
Day 36: Drive to Kathmandu.
Mountain Safety
Mountain safety is our top priority at climb High. We will maintain a continual communication with base camp through radios. Climb High will also provide you with Gamo bag (Portable Altitude Chamber bag) and oxygen in case of any emergency (for medical purpose only). Strong and experienced Sherpa’s who have been on Shishapangma several times supports our Shishapangma Expedition. Our Experienced guide and Sherpa's will, stock camps, fix ropes and provide support for the climb. This enables you to carry lighter weight and save your strength when you go for the summit bid. Climb High's support, equipment and service are high quality in order to give you an outstanding chance to summit.
Our Objectives
Our main objective is to help you summit Shishapangma safely and at the same time enjoy it also. In order to achieve our goal we will ensure you that you are properly prepared for the summit bid. On your request, Climb High runs a variety of mountaineering courses as a Shishapangma training program.
It is also important to acclimatize properly to avoid altitude problems and to keep yourself healthy and fit. Climb High will make sure that you are properly acclimatized before you reach base camp. We will start our acclimatization process to our highest acclimatization camp, which is camp 3.
Food
Our food for the mountain is well prepared by our specially trained cooks in order to give you the best balanced diet of fruit, green vegetables and lot's of carbohydrates and proteins. Our cooks have undergone cooking trainings and can prepare you any food even at such high altitudes. We also make sure that they are prepared hygienically as we do not want any one of our clients to feel sick. In addition, there will be plenty of hot drinks, soups, tea and biscuits to eat.
